On Friday, October 24, our farm was one stop on a tour investigating solutions for the vacant housing/empty lot problem.  Senator Charles E. Schumer, Federal Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan, and Representative Brian Higgins visited the farm and asked Mark questions about what we were doing with the Wilson Street property.   Find out why by reading the article in the Buffalo News at http://www.buffalonews.com.  Look for “Albany & Washington Shine Light on Buffalo Housing Blight”.

We were surprised and delighted to see you guys on television! We were also surprised and delighted that the Federal government is involved this time.

Only a tiny portion of that article delt with farms and gardens. Therefore, I thought this was going to be another same-old-same-old–the original same-old being why your stretch of Wilson Street became devoid of houses to begin with.

I have to say I am so excited that you guys have started this. I lived in that area as a child, and I go back to the Broadway Market several times a yr. The neighborhood has very little left as far as stores. I’m so happy the neighborhood can enjoy fresh veggies. I hope it’s a sign of things turning around in a neighborhood the politicians have turned their backs on… Keep up the good work…
